Tips for using photos to boost your sales on Etsy, Facebook, Amazon, eBay or at a retail location.

You know using photos to boost your sales is important. The brain processes visuals much faster and shoppers form their first impression within 50 milliseconds. That means your first impression has to be the best one.

You know you need product photos. The question is, how to best use photos to boost your sales? And I’m going to share 37 ways to do just that!

What kinds of photos should you use?

Before you learn how to use the photos, let’s talk about what kind of photos you should consider.

Candids of you, your family, pets and staff, plus behind the scenes shots, are all excellent for social media and building rapport with your customers. These shots are “selfie style” and can be taken with your phone. In fact, the more candid they are, the better!

You should also include professional business photography in your image assets. Business portraits (not necessarily suit and tie, but professional shots) of you, your staff, your store, the employee of the month, etc. Don’t forget the attention grabbing value of cinemagraphs and stop motion images for online use. Your product photos should definitely be professional quality. And also consider using a professional photographer for before and after shots as a result of your service.

The best ways to use photos to boost sales:

To get the best value out of your images, you need to put them in front of people. Don’t be afraid to use photos more than once – anywhere, including on social media. People are drawn to images, so here are my recommendations:

  • Your Website
That is a pretty obvious one. Here is where you will use your portrait & staff photos, location photos and product or services photos.
  • Website Search
If you add images to your website’s search results and in the drop down menus, you will get more clicks. One online retailer saw a 100% rise in conversion rates from shoppers using their search feature thanks to the use of photos. Be certain to optimize product photography for search engines!

Business and product photography is an investment. If you only think of using the results on your website, or on Instagram and your other social media, it can be difficult to justify. When you step back and look at the bigger “picture” you will see that your investment can be spread to do more than convert customers.

Product photography can also be used to earn money and drive more people to your business, thus boosting your sales.
